Szlama Kon built the Glass-Works Wołomin in 1905. Initially, only production of glass tableware, pressed glass, multicoloured glass and cut glass lamps was launched. In 1913, another large glassworks called “PRACA” was erected with its core business being the production of pharmaceutical glass and equipment for the perfume industry. By 1914, the two glassworks employed two-thirds of all inhabitants of Wołomin and vicinities. After World War II both plants were nationalised and combined into one company.
In 1958, the demand for heat-resistant laboratory glassware grew considerably. The glassworks launched production of such products and a few years later already the venture turned into mass-scale production. In 1974, production lines of thin-wall blown products on the Italian Oliwotto automatic machine was launched. In the first few years beverage bottles (Cola) were also manufactured, while a number of other products of various shapes including laboratory equipment was hand made.
The launch of automatic washing machines on the domestic market gave rise to a new demand for washing machine glass doors. The glassworks initiated cooperation with the then market leader – Polar and other washing machine producers, such as Amica and Wiatka. The production of washing machine doors marked the beginning of a new production line of pressed glassware.
After the change of regime in 1989, the state-owned plant entered a new age of free market economy. The new situation along with the crisis on the Russian market whereto the glassworks exported a vast share of production lead to the closing down of the plant in 1998.
In June 2000, a part of the liquidated Termisil Glass-Works Wołomin was purchased by two entrepreneurs from Krosno – Janusz Michna and Anna Malczewska – Michna who set on to re-establish the market presence of the 100-year old brand TERMISIL. What was crucial to the success of the reconstruction of the company was to find new distribution channels, in particular focusing on foreign markets. Only four years later in 2004, the Wołomin based glassworks became the market leader in the heat-resistant glass segment with products sold in 28 countries worldwide. The new owners made considerable investments in a new heat-resistant glass production line and state-of-the-art mould making devices.
In 2006, with the help of funding from the European Union another large investment was launched, this time aimed at improving the glassworks department producing glasses, tumblers, cups, jugs and pots.
Today the company employs approximately 230 and is undergoing rapid changes. It has received recognition for the high quality of products and its business reliability.
The Termisil product portfolio consists of over 140 items, including glasses, cups, coffee pots, tea and herbal infusions pots and kitchen heat-resistant glassware.
